Acupuncture and the Treatment of Emotional Problems

The World Health Organisation has reported that Acupuncture has been shown to be effective in the treatment of depression, anxiety and stress without harmful side affects.

"Acupuncture is comparable with amitriptyline in the treatment of depression but has fewer side-effects." World Health Organisation

This page will cover the treatment of depression, anxiety and stress, however acupuncture can help with many other emotional problems.

Depression - Anxiety

In order to have an effective result in the treatment of emotional problems each individuals treatment must be holistic and suited to there unique personality and situation.

A one pill fits all approach to the treatment of depression may give a short term result, however the original imbalance that caused the problem has not been addressed and in the longer term this may lead to further problems.

Accupuncture aims at treating the person, along with the disease. This means the Acupuncturist looks at treating the patient as a whole not just the symptoms, this holistic approach enables a long term solution that is safe, natural and drug free.

Acupuncture has been shown to be able regulate many hormones that play an important role in emotional stability these include Serotonin and Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), low Serotonin levels have been associated with depression and a greater risk of suicide, obesity, and insomnia. ACTH has a broad effect on many neurotransmitters that control a variety of physiologic functions including the ability to deal with stress.

The most common form of anti depressant in use today is Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI).

However, in addition to other dangers, there is also an established direct link between suicide and violent behaviour and the use of SSRIs

After smoking marijuana daily for 15 years, I found myself struggling with depression and life in general.
I tried antidepressants recommended by my GP for a few years with limited results and I also found they really knocked my body around. I would feel very groggy in the mornings and would breakout into sweats throughout the day. My GP tried several different types of antidepressants to avoid these side effects but no success.
I was recommended TCM by a friend and really liked the idea of not having to be reliant on prescription medicine in order to feel better.
During my treatments with Neil Banning he kept me completely informed as to what he was doing and why he was doing it, he restored my body’s balance and was also using points to strengthen my will power to aid me in my recovery. I always found Neil’s explanations to be logical and more importantly the results from each treatment were felt instantly.
During my 4 weeks of treatment I reduced my antidepressant daily intake by ¾ and was completely off them within 6 weeks, it has now been 2 years since I have had any prescription medications for depression and I have never felt better.
The simple fact that I felt calm and felt like I had had some strength restored after my first treatment boosted my confidence in TCM immensely. I have two boys aged 11 and 15 who both now use TCM as a practical alternative to western medicine.
My oldest son suffers from Asthma and we now have this under better control thanks to Neil.
I would personally recommend Neil to anyone who is battling any type of illness and especially would recommend him to anyone who is battling with any type of addiction and has not had the results they have been looking for through normal western medical practice.
I would like to take this moment to personal thank Neil for his help and support over the years and helping me get my life back on track, quite often we don’t realise how cloudy life can become until someone shines light on it, so thanks Neil and I look forward to you keeping my whole family healthy in the years to come.
Another thing Neil has taught me is that a lot easier to stay healthy than it is to get well.
Duncan.
