Period pain is one of the most common problems that women have, many women suffer this pain and have either just accepted it or have tried many different solutions with little or no relief. Often young females with severe period pain are given the contraceptive pill to help with the problem, this approach is not addressing the cause of the problem only masking it, and starting the contraceptive pill at such a young age may lead to other health problems in later life.

Mild discomfort prior to and during the period is normal, however if there is pain there is a problem, pain is the bodies way of telling us that something is wrong, and if we just alleviate the pain and not the underlying cause little has been solved.

The approach of treatment with Acupuncture is three fold, firstly to alleviate the pain, secondly to treat the root cause of the pain, thirdly to see if there are any external factors that may be contributing to the problem such as diet, lifestyle etc.

Neil Banning of Auckland Acupuncture Centre is my saviour, he rescued me from years of monthly pain due to my menstrual cycles. The pain started from a very young age, doctors could offer no solution, with the exception of a contraceptive pill and pain killers. After enduring this pain for 20 years or so, (sometimes been so excruciating I was bed ridden). Using Acupuncture and Chinese medicine over a course of approximately 6 months, he has completely cured me of my enduring pain. I cannot recommend him highly enough and without Neil, I would no doubt still be enduring chronic monthly periods. And for that Neil, I will always be gratefull...                                                                                            Angela Hardy 37
